Rumeli Hisarı é il nome della fortezza costruita dai turchi nel 1451 per avere il controllo dello stretto del Bosforo. Quello che é un vero e proprio castello, conosciuto anche come il “tagliagola”, fu l'ultimo tassello di una strategia che portò alla conquista di Costantinopoli del 1453. Dopo la conquista di Costantinopoli la fortezza venne utilizzata come deposito delle armi e anche come prigione rimanendo in uso ininterrottamente fino alla fine del XIX secolo. Oggi é un museo. Al suo interno é stato ricavato un piccolo anfiteatro, é presente una moschea ed una antica cisterna. Da sopra le mura é possibile ammirare il bellissimo panorama del Bosforo.
