È una delle specie più comuni in Europa e visita instancabilmente i fiori selvatici grazie alla sua lunga lingua, adatta a bottinare anche le corolle più profonde. Nonostante l'aspetto peloso e massiccio, è un insetto mite. A differenza di altri bombi, non costruisce nidi sottoterra ma spesso tra l'erba alta, camuffando l'ingresso con foglie e muschio.
