Genestredo si trova qualche centinaio di metri di quota più a monte del fondovalle al di sopra dell'abitato di Vogogna. Il nucleo abitato è un insediamento di versante orientato verso sud-ovest che sfrutta l'ottima esposizione dovuta anche all'apertura del fondovalle che in corrispondenza di Vogogna è piuttosto ampia. Il villaggio sorge su di un terrazzo orografico semi pianeggiante che interrompe l'accentuata inclinazione del pendio del versante. Genestredo è un insediamento che si sviluppa prevalentemente in modo reticolare a formare un agglomerato fitto e denso. Gli edifici si dispongono su più livelli per ottimizzare il pendio e hanno come affaccio principale il lato verso valle. Questi presentano alternativamente la configurazione a colmo del tetto parallelo e perpendicolare alla linea di massima pendenza del suolo. Tra gli edifici si snoda una fitta rete di viottoli in parte ancora lastricati. Si tratta per lo più di abitazioni in muratura di pietra portante di ottima fattura e copertura a doppia falda con struttura lignea rivestita in beole secondo la tipica tecnica costruttiva locale. Nella maggior parte degli edifici la tessitura muraria e le strutture lignee originarie si sono conservate. Di particolare interesse sono le numerose strutture collettive che si trovano all'interno del villaggio come ad esempio fontanili, lavatoi, ecc. che rendono particolarmente articolato lo spazio apert
