Nel suo laboratorio Michele Ducato non è mai solo. Ogni suo opera, ogni colpo di pennello, ogni gesto, sono seguiti dallo sguardo attento della gatta Gigia, vera padrona dello spazio. Lei vive lì, ogni giorno, anche quando non si dipinge. E' arrivata alcuni anni fa, trovata proprio da Michele, e da allora è custode fedele dei colori dei carretti che escono dallo studio Ducato. Una grande responsabilità, dato che Michele è erede di una delle più importanti famiglie che da generazioni a Bagheria ha ornato con motivi cavallereschi alcuni tra i più raffinati carretti mai prodotti nell'isola. Oggetti sfavillanti che uscivano dalle mani dei Ducato. Non solo, tra le scene non mancano Garibaldi e qualche santo. Le linee delle geometrie sono decise e nette. Gli sfumati sono riservati alle scene epiche e ai volti umani. Tutto avviene in un susseguirsi di colori senza soluzione di continuità. Un tempo erano decine i carretti prodotti e dipinti ogni anno. Oggi sono due i carri in attesa di essere dipinti con scene complesse e geometrie colorate. Servono 4 mesi di lavoro di pittura per ciascuno. Uno è più piccolo, per asino, ed uno più grande per cavallo, attendono entrambi di essere dipinti dalle mani di Michele, che dall'età di 6 anni dipinge secondo i canoni tramandati in famiglia. Non più solo carretti; adesso che quel gusto barocco ha varcato i confini della Sicilia,anche scatole di pregiati panettoni ed elettrodomestici vengono dipinti con precisione millimetrica con i gialli, i rossi, i blu seguendo una precisa sintassi grafica senza lasciare spazi vuoti. Horror vacui, d'altronde come si percepisce nello stesso laboratorio Ducato. Tutto qui è colore pieno
