La cosiddetta Fontana della Terrina si trova oggi nel rione Parione, in Piazza della Chiesa Nuova. Fino al 1899, tuttavia, si trovava al centro di Campo de' Fiori, dove oggi si trova la scultura in bronzo di Giordano Bruno realizzata da Ettore Ferrari. L'opera fu infatti smontata per far posto alla scultura e rimontata solo nel 1924 dove è visibile oggi, lungo l'asse di Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. Le origini della Fontana della Terrina sono remote. Con il restauro dell'acquedotto dell'Acqua Vergine, completato nel 1570, iniziarono i lavori per la creazione di un ramo secondario del condotto, per portare acqua al Campo Marzio, all'epoca tra i più popolosi di tutta Roma. Pertanto, Papa Gregorio XIII commissionò a Giacomo della Porta la realizzazione di una serie di fontane. La Terrina fu l'ultima da lui progettata, nel 1590, quando il pontefice era già morto. Giacomo della Porta pensò a una fontana composta da una vasca marmorea ovale posizionata al centro di una vasca incassata nel pavimento. La bassa pressione che raggiungeva l'acqua in quel punto costrinse l'artista ad adottare questo stratagemma per far scorrere l'acqua. La Fontana della Terrina fu completata nel 1595 ma subì importanti modifiche. Trovandosi al centro di uno dei mercati più frequentati di Roma, era sempre piena di merci, verdura e rifiuti. Così, nel 1622, si decise di chiuderla con una vasca rovesciata in travertino recante la scritta "Ama Dio e non mancare, fa' del bene e lascia dire agli altri. MDCXXII". Da quel momento in poi, la Fontana assunse il nome di "Terrina".
