Domenica 5 ottobre 2014, Roma, primo pomeriggio. Una motocicletta procedeva sulla tangenziale della Capitale… detta Grande Raccordo Anulare… quando ad certo punto il conducente del mezzo… una Suzuki di 600 cm3 che sembra non stesse procedendo ad alta velocità… perse improvvisamente il controllo del mezzo che andò a schiantarsi contro il guard rail di contenimento. Alla guida vi era l' ex pilota di Formula 1 Andrea De Cesaris che a causa del violento urto lasciò per sempre questa nostra vita terrena. Nato il 31 maggio 1959… aveva iniziato a gareggiare sui kart nel 1972 con cui vinse sia un Campionato Italiano… e pure uno Europeo… per poi passare a gareggiare nel 1977 sulle vetture a ruote scoperte e più precisamente nella Formula Super Ford mentre nell' anno successivo debutterà in Formula 3 nel Campionato Inglese su una vettura della Squadra gestita dall' ex pilota di vetture a ruote coperte (anche Ferrari) australiano Tim Schenken (classe 1943)… Squadra con cui arriverà 2° nel Campionato del 1979. Nel 1980 debutterà in Formula 2 con il Team Project Four Racing gestito dall' inglese Sir Ronald “Ron” Dennis (classe 1947) mentre alla fine dello stesso anno debutterà in Formula 1 sostituendo Vittorio Brambilla (1937 – 2001) alla guida dell' Alfa Romeo 179 nelle ultime 2 gare del Campionato. Andrea proseguirà a gareggiare nel Campionato Mondiale di Formula 1 fino al 1994 pilotando pure per McLaren, Ligier, Minardi, Brabham, Rial, Scuderia Italia, Jordan, Tyrrell e Sauber qualificandosi per partire in 208 Gran Premi e salendo sul podio per 5 volte. Essendo spesso alla conduzione di vetture che necessitavano ancora di sviluppi tecnici riuscirà a conquistare il triste record di ben 148 ritiri di cui 22 consecutivi. In seguito… e dopo aver declinato alcune offerte per andare a gareggiare nel Campionato Americano CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams)… lo si vedrà alla guida nelle 3 gare del Gran Prix Masters … Campionato per ex piloti di Formula 1 disputato nel biennio 2005-2006. Andrea trascorse gli ultimi anni della sua vita terrena dedicandosi principalmente al suo hobby preferito dopo le corse automobilistiche: acquistare e rivendere legalmente valute di altri paesi… pratica che svolgeva sia da Roma che dalle Isole Hawaii… dove aveva acquistato un' altra abitazione e dove si recava anche per praticare windsurf e pure motocross.
