@Beppe: here there is something different from the high mountains, where the environment is hard and difficult for life. Here it is like going back in time when the soil was slowly created by the pioneer plants that colonized the lava flows, making the surface fertile and allowing the growth of gradually larger and more complex species. All concepts that I studied at school and seeing them live years later was exciting! :-)
