All'inizio i minuscoli cristalli bianchi si appressano e si trasformano, i frammenti si accavallano e sinterizzano, l'aria viene allontanata, gli spazi si colmano. La massa di neve si sgonfia appoggiandosi a sé stessa e gravando sulla roccia come se fosse intenta a sopportare lo sforzo per trattenere ancora un poco l'acqua dentro il suo ventre freddo. Così facendo si appesantisce e comprime se stessa. Adesso basta ancora poco e il prodigio del disgelo in quota ritorna. Quasi d'un fiato il liquido rompe l'immobilità e scorre, fugge via e si rivela. L'acqua ritrova le sue vie verso il basso, si riversa nelle vallecole, si spande quieta negli stagni, corre veloce negli impluvi e suona, fa sentire la sua voce in mille e mille cascatelle, si attarda ancora un poco nel terreno, schiuma fra le erbe scure e le foglie morte dell'anno passato, gonfia i terreni e penetra in profondità, ribagna le radici di tutta la prateria alpina, stilla e sgorga da ogni balza e poi finalmente precipita veloce verso la foresta.
