La Fontana Pretoria, realizzata nel 1554 dallo scultore Francesco Camilliani, fu inizialmente destinata a una villa fiorentina. Successivamente, nel 1573, fu acquistata dal Senato palermitano per la cifra di circa 30.000 scudi per essere installata nella piazza che sarebbe poi diventata Piazza Pretoria. La fontana fu smontata in 644 pezzi e trasportata a Palermo, dove fu ricostruita nel suo attuale sito.
