porticciolo e lungolago - l suo territorio si sviluppa sulla riviera occidentale del Lago d'Orta. Mancano certe notizie relative agli insediamenti più antichi. È stato però recentemente ritrovato un masso coppellato del IV-I secolo aC, probabilmente un altare religioso che trova confronti con quelli di Bugnate e Monte Zuoli. Nel territorio si rinvenne anche un piccolo sepolcreto con urne cinerarie e monete del III e IV secolo dC È citato nelle carte a partire dal 1039. Il paese seguì le vicende di tutte le terre legate all'Isola di San Giulio, sotto il potere vescovile fino al 1767. Quindi anche Pella fu possedimento vescovile a partire dal X secolo con Orta e Cozzano. L'antico "castrum" venne preso nel 957 da Litolfo figlio dell'imperatore Ottone I, chiamato dal padre a porre riordino nelle terre dell'Italia Settentrionale e ad opporsi alla tirannia di Berengario II e Adalberto, signori dell'Isola di San Giulio. Nel 1529 con Orta e gli altri paesi del Cusio respingono l'invasione di Cesare Maggio capitano di Carlo V.
