Nella maestosa distesa della costellazione di Orione, a soli 1'375 anni luce da noi, si cela uno dei luoghi più affascinanti e più fotografati del cosmo: la Nebulosa Testa di Cavallo. Come un'ombra scolpita nella volta celeste, questa nube oscura si erge al di sotto della stella Alnitak (o Zeta Orionis), nella Cintura di Orione, un antico asterismo che guida da millenni lo sguardo di pastori, costruttori ed astronomi. Là dove i nostri occhi vedono tenebra, in realtà la materia pulsa di vita: è una fucina celeste, dove le stelle nascono lente e ardenti, nel silenzio primordiale delle polveri cosmiche. Il bagliore rosso che avvolge la scena è idrogeno ionizzato, infiammato dalla luce di Sigma Orionis. E tra queste meraviglie si impone una stella regale: una fiamma celeste 21'000 volte più luminosa del nostro Sole, un titano che pesa 33 volte più del nostro astro e ne supera il diametro di venti volte. Ma anche i giganti celesti hanno un destino: in un futuro lontano, ma prossimo su scala cosmica, questa stella si dilaterà in una supergigante rossa, per poi cedere al proprio stesso splendore e morire in un'esplosione di bellezza: una supernova, ultimo grido di luce prima del silenzio. La Testa di Cavallo non è solo un oggetto astronomico, è un simbolo eterno che unisce la scienza al mistero, la fotografia al sogno. Non stupisce che sia tra gli oggetti più immortalati del cielo: chi guarda verso di essa cerca forse, inconsciamente, una risposta più grande. In fondo, osservare Orione è come sfiorare un frammento di infinito, racchiuso nel disegno eterno per sempre. La foto è una somma di 70 ore di pose ed è frutto della collaborazione tra Pineta1984 e Luca Barcaro (Astrodivers).
