Il Sole ha appena iniziato a illuminare le vette più orientali degli Appennini lunari. Al centro dell'inquadratura c'è la Rima Hyginus che attraversa l'omonimo cratere ancora immerso nell'ombra. Quest'ultimo pare non sia un cratere da impatto, poiché è privo del bordo esterno rialzato, ma sia invece di origine vulcanica. Il suo diametro è di circa 11km. Più in basso c'è la Rima Ariadaeus, lunga circa 300km, mentre a destra Lacus Lenitatis (lago della dolcezza - com'erano romantici...) largo circa 78km. In alto a sinistra è visibile la diramata Rima Triesneker. È interessante notare le numerose strutture frastagliate orientate verso nord-est. Nella zona c'è il cratere Manilius, quando il suo interno è illuminato dal Sole è chiaramente visibile per la sua albedo più alta rispetto al suolo circostante.
