Primo giorno del secondo giro allo Yellowstone in inverno. Inizio tribolato con qualche inconveniente. Arriviamo nella zona ad est piuttosto sul tardi e vediamo 2/3 persone ferme a bordo strada. Ci dicono che mezz'oretta prima avevano avvistato un ermellino che però sembrava essere entrato dentro la foresta. Decidiamo di aspettare, ma un vento gelido non aiuta l'attesa. Dopo un'oretta il primo dei nostri abbandona. Rientra in auto. Dopo un'altra mezz'ora anche il secondo abbandona. Passa una mezz'oretta, si sta facendo tardi. Anche i superstiti decidono di rientrare. Mestamente chino il capo e li accompagno alla macchina. Fortuna vuole che proprio mentre ci stavamo avvicinando all'auto, il piccolo ermellino attraversasse la strada lanciandosi nel campo innevato proprio accanto. Un fulmine, una trottola che solo a seguirla con gli occhi era un'impresa. Cerco di anticipare i suoi intenti e mi piazzo un po' più lontano dagli altri. Inizialmente il piccoletto è a distanza siderale ma pian piano si avvicina nella mia direzione. Non mi vede. Io sono fermo immobile accucciato. Mi arriva a meno di mezzo metro. Col 100-500 quasi non mi entra e smetto di scattare. Lui alla fine si accorge di me e cambia direzione improvvisamente. Ma qualche bello scatto me lo ha già regalato....un gran primo giorno a Yellowstone!
