Il Sumo è uno sport tradizionale giapponese che risale a più di 1500 anni fa. Si tratta di una forma di lotta tra due wrestlers che competono nel centro di un cerchio chiamato dohyo, circondato da tre cinture: una bianca, una blu e una rossa. Ogni lotta si svolge in due tempi, un primo con la semplice presa della mano e un secondo con il vero e proprio combattimento. In Giappone, il Sumo non è solo uno sport ma è visto come una sorta di spettacolo o di performance che rappresenta la cultura giapponese e le sue usanze. All'interno del santuario Sumo, le wrestlers indossano i propri costumi tradizionali chiamati mawashi, che sono stati progettati per proteggere i wrestler durante le loro esibizioni. Durante le cerimonie, le wrestlers fanno anche il saluto Shiko, un gesto che consiste nell'alzare entrambe le ginocchia e sbatterle contro terra per scacciare gli spiriti maligni. Durante queste esibizioni, la sala viene invasa da un forte suono di tamburi e canti che servono ad accompagnare le loro mosse. Il Sumo è un evento sportivo popolare in Giappone e al giorno d'oggi sono state create varie competizioni per questo sport. La competizione più importante e famosa è il Gran Torneo, dove i campioni giapponesi e mondiali si sfidano nella stessa arena.
