La diga e la centrale idroelettrica si trova tra Robbiate (LC), Paderno d'Adda (LC) e Calusco d'Adda (BG). in questa zona il fiume Adda divide le provincie di Lecco da una parte, e quella di Bergamo, dall'altra lato. la zona é di grande interesse. oltre la diga e le centrale molto famoso anche il Ponte San Michele (Ponte di Paderno) ad arco, in ferro a traffico misto ferroviario-stradale.
