at 600mm, 1/2500 f/8.0, ISO 800, hand held. Inawashiro Lake, Japan. Specie: Milvus migrans

La focale non basta mai e per questa foto poter scattare col 2X a 1200mm avrebbe fatto la differenza ;-) senza TC, son dovuto ricorrere a un fortissimo crop.

It seems very good to me ... It is sufficient "large" for any digital use. or small print (bird books), for the rest of the 500,000 photos of birdlife in the gallery in my opinion those printed in large will be 0.000000000000000.... :-D
The 2x would have made the shot much more difficult due to the reduced angle and difficulty in framing and tracking the subject, also given the weight of the equipment ... It would also slow down the autofocus, soften the subject, and introduce aberrations.
To exaggerate the 1.4x could have been just
useful.PS
You shot at F8 ... now they will criticize you because an F4 should only be used at F4 :-D

great close-up. The problem lies in the absence of references to the surrounding environment which would make the foreground even more exciting

I agree with Mattia, @1200mm it would have been very difficult to frame him.
It is also true that this lens is not a fixed focal length and that, with a 2x noted, you would have had a 600-1200 fifths all in all easier than with a fixed 1200.
It's a real shame that Sony doesn't allow third-party TCs, they take a lot of meaning away from the Superteles lights
