Sono sincero, non avrei mai pensato di poter fare una foto così allo Yellowstone/Grand Teton. Pur conoscendo il luogo meglio di qualunque altro posto nel mondo, incluse le zone vicino casa, non avevo mai avuto chance di poter fotografare un puma in libertà. E senza uso di fototrappola. Questa volta la soffiata è arrivata il penultimo giorno da un'amica che vive a Jackson. La decisione con gli altri è presto presa. Si parte alle 4. Il problema è l'allerta meteo per la tempesta di neve che arriverà di lì a poco. Eppure il cielo è limpido....andiamo a dormire. La sveglia notturna suona e mi affaccio alla finestra. La neve scende copiosa. Alle 4 di notte carico le valigie, cerco di pulire l'auto quanto possibile e via...la strada è ghiacciata, 10cm di neve sull'asfalto non rendono le cose agevoli. Le compagnie di noleggio non tj danno le gomme invernali. Il vetro si ghiaccia continuamente ed i tergicristalli sono ghiacciati. Devo scendero ogni 10min a sbloccare tutto. In qualche modo riusciamo a superare il passo per "scollinare", poco prima che chiudano tutto. Arrivo alle 8, e qualche naturalista è già pronto con gli svarowski. La distanza è importante...monto il 2x sul 600 ed inizia l'attesa. Passano le ore, la neve non smette di cadere e si alza il vento. Siamo diversi gradi sottozero ed oramai, dopo 6 ore, la fiducia inizia a tentennare....allo scoccare dell'ottava ora di attesa, si muove qualcosa. Vedo le orecchie del puma! Forse lascia la carcassa e si muove verso il riparo del bosco per la notte. È proprio così. 10 secondi, non di più. 10 secondi per ore di attesa e preparazione. Alla fine la vera fotografia naturalistica è questa. È andata bene ma poteva non uscire un bel niente! Un regalo inaspettato per l'ultimo scatto del viaggio. L'avvistamento più raro di questi 15 anni di viaggi allo Yellowstone. Sempre grato alla natura. Un saluto a tutti, Ale.
