LA BASILICA DI SACCARGIA: UN GIOIELLO MEDIEVALE INCASTONATO IN SARDEGNA A CIRCA 17 KM DA SASSARI (SARDEGNA NORD-OVEST) ECCO STAGLIARSI LA BASILICA DELLA SANTISSIMA TRINITÀ DI SACCARGIA DI CODRONGIANOS, MERAVIGLIOSA CHIESA DI ORIGINE ROMANICO-PISANA MA CON FORTI INFLUENZE BIZANTINE SU NUMEROSI AFFRESCHI: SIMBOLO E UNICUM DELL'INTERA ISOLA Chi raggiunge Codrongianos lo fa probabilmente per potersi immergere nell'atmosfera pienamente medievale rappresentata dall'affascinante Basilica di Saccargia. Il centro abitato viene fondato dai Romani ma l'area doveva essere abitata sin da epoca nuragica, come testimoniano gli oltre 60 nuraghe disseminati nei dintorni. Diviso in una parte bassa, che custodisce l'antica chiesa romanico-pisana, e una alta, che corrisponde all'attuale centro storico del paese, Codrongianos si sviluppa intorno alla chiesa di San Paolo la quale conserva alcuni dipinti di Guido Reni. La Basilica della Santissima Trinità di Saccargia dove storia e sacralità sarde si incontrano La Basilica di Saccargia viene edificata nel 1116 dai monaci benedettini nell'omonima piana, poco distante da Codrongianos. I lavori proseguono sino al 1200, quando viene eretto il campanile e si decide di ampliare l'aula principale. L'edificio è lontano dall'architettura sarda: è in pietra locale ma richiama la cromia toscana, grazie all'utilizzo alternato di pietra calcarea bianca e basalto nero. Il risultato è una struttura che rimanda al romanico toscano con un portico d'ingresso molto suggestivo che apre sulla campagna assolata e silenziosa. Sebbene sia considerata la basilica simbolo della Sardegna, quella di Saccargia costituisce quasi un unicum, in virtù degli affreschi, marcatamente bizantini e rappresentanti scene della vita di Cristo, che solitamente non si trovano in altri edifici religiosi della zona. Anche il campanile ripropone lo schema della cromia pisana: alta 40 metri domina tutta la piana.
