Still Standing sent on January 23, 2025 (8:13) by Alberto Dall'oglio. 28 comments, 569 views.

1/160 f/1.7, ISO 100,

Well... Maybe this one. It is the perspective on the subject that changes. On this the tree is a tree, the nature of the subject is better depicted. Both beautiful photos.

Also in this photo you can appreciate the background in shadow, very intriguing.
I find that a beautiful perspective and a certain verticality is evident to
the illuminated part that stands out upwards.
The image is more "streamlined", and always very pleasant.
Quite a dilemma to have to choose between the two proposals!
I would say that, for me, it is more attractive to see the unfolding of the trunk and branches rather than just the tangle of the final part of the crown.
Congratulations on your achievements !

This one is more descriptive than the other, it does not force careful observation but gives the pleasure of noticing how a trivial subject such as a bare tree can become wonderful if the eyes of a good photographer show it to us.
congratulations!

They are both attractive for light and color contrast, but I definitely prefer this one because the PDR gives a three-dimensionality and depth that the other does not have.

The other one is better for my personal taste

I left the most exhaustive comment in the other photo, the element in my opinion of distraction on this image is in the upper right part, but I repeat... congratulations!

I prefer this one.
More "traditional" than the other which is more abstract.
I'm reluctant to change even in photography, and that's why I've been stuck at the pole for a lifetime, proposing more or less always the same things :-)
The light that envelops the tree and the vegetation that surrounds it is beautiful.
Congratulations and good evening
Giancarlo

I thank all of you who have expressed yourself on this image, telling very well how you see it and how you compare it with the other proposal! :-)
On the upper right side you are right: unfortunately there the scrub ended and the beach began again and this creates a certain discontinuity with the rest; but as you have observed, this shot is more "real" than the other, more "abstract" so I proposed it anyway even with this flaw, being the light and the context really photogenic.

Dearest Alberto. Both shots of excellent quality.
From personal experience (and it's a constant problem I always face when shooting with a drone) aerial photography tends to be "squashed" and eliminate the depth of the image (particularly if the background is dark). I have noticed that above 30 degrees of inclination with respect to the subject this often happens. So if you have depth behind, all good... otherwise it seems crushed...
The other image you took practically from a perpendicular PDR is "better" because you were able to capture that spiral pattern of trees on the ground... Perpendicular shots are almost always Wow... Solve the problem always taking into account the rule of 1/3, 2/3... if not possible you have to have depth behind.
Congratulations on the work you do with the drone. Greetings Simone

Congratulations Alberto,
the images are both very beautiful but, having to express a preference, I would opt for this one in which the perspective of the tree seems more real to me.
Even the slightly longer format (I don't know how to explain it exactly) makes me prefer it over the other one which seems a little more ... Squat.
Then, I could also be wrong because if in music I often go by ear, in photography I go a lot to... eye. :-D

Thank you Paolo for the passage and your considerations! :-)
This photo has been cropped to the classic "fullframe" 3:2 format, while the other retains the original format of the drone's sensor, i.e. 4:3... This explains the feeling you had! ;-) Here I also needed cropping to remove unwanted elements from the frame, as well as to give vertical momentum to the image! ;-)
