...it's not Gagarin's Sturmanskie, but a Soviet Pobeda (Victory) watch from 1953, model "34-K". On March 9, 1961, the Russians launched Sputnik-4 (called Sputnik-9 in Western sources), carrying a mannequin named Ivan Ivanovich, several mice, a guinea pig and a dog named Chernushka (Blackie). Dr. Abraham Genin, a Soviet aerospace medicine researcher, attached his old watch to dog (or rather female dog) Chernushka, thinking it was a good idea to get rid of his old watch. Sputnik-4 was one of the ships in a series prepared for manned space flights. The flight ended better than in the case of the dog "Łajka". The mannequin was catapulted and returned to Earth by parachute. Chernushka landed in the capsule alive and well. Only Dr. Abraham Genin had a problem, because the engraving on the back revealed whose watch was illegally included in the mission. A month later, on April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space. In the photos the dog Chernushka and Dr. Genin with her watch and my Pobeda produced in 1958. equipped, like Dr. Genin's Pobeda, with a 15-jewel K-26 mechanism (later called: caliber 2602), built on the basis of the French Lip 26 (Frederik Lipman).

I was just a kid at the time and in later years I was told obsessively about this fact. Nice storytelling and images, thanks Warszawski.
