Pakistan 2023 Rifugiata Afghana - Prima di partire coltivavo ancora la speranza che la scuola avrebbe potuto davvero formare delle professioniste della bellezza e liberare delle donne afghane dall'oppressione. I disegni in stile cubista che ho utilizzato per alcuni ritratti nascevano infatti dall'esigenza di trasfigurare una realtà, impossibile nell'Afghanistan talebano, in una visione possibile. I volti nascosti dai veli e dai burqa si sarebbero rivelati in modo trasfigurato. Gli strumenti di lavoro distrutti dalla furia fondamentalista allo stesso modo sarebbero stati ricostruiti come oggetti artistici. L'arte cubista avrebbe permesso di mostrare una realtà più vera, più desiderabile, più armonica rispetto alla triste condizione attuale. Il fatto che gli strumenti seppur disegnati fossero realistici, e che alcuni tratti somatici delle persone ritratte, un occhio, la bocca, le mani, convivessero nelle fotografie insieme alle parti disegnate, avrebbe dovuto trasmettere una tensione tra i due mondi, una sorta di lotta.
