Il “Puffin” (Fratercula arctica), chiamato comunemente in lingua italiana “Pulcinella di mare” è uno degli uccelli più famosi e ricercati del nord Europa. Fa parte della Famiglia delle Alcidae, dell'Ordine dei “Caradriiformi” (Charadriiformes), il medesimo Ordine dei Gabbiani e di tanti altri uccelli marini. La Famiglia delle Alcidae si distingue da tutte le altre, poiché comprende diversi generi di uccelli che dipendono dal mare e che esteticamente presentano caratteristiche comuni, sia di dimensioni che di colorazione e piumaggio. La Famiglia “Alcidae” raggruppa venticinque specie, di undici generi differenti. La Pulcinella di mare è l'Alcidae per antonomasia, l'uccello che meglio rappresenta questa particolare categoria di “Aves”. L'emozione di trovarsi di fronte a queste splendide creature nel contesto meraviglioso dell'Isola di Mykines è tanta.
