L'itinerario enoturistico Rioja Alavesa si trova nei Paesi Baschi a sud della provincia di Álava, vicino a La Rioja. Il capoluogo è Laguardia, posta a 45 chilometri dalla città di Vitoria-Gasteiz e a 18 chilometri da Logroño. Sono paesi tradizionalmente legati alla cultura del vino, che conservano ancora il fascino dei borghi medievali costruiti tra i vigneti. Qui troviamo più di cinquanta stabilimenti che permettono di avvicinarsi a uno dei vini spagnoli di maggior prestigio internazionale, degustazioni e destinazioni che fanno parte dell'Itinerario enoturistico della Rioja Alavesa. In questa zona al nord della Spagna, la denominata Rioja Alavesa, si produce una parte dei famosi vini della Rioja. La posizione geografica di questo territorio, compreso tra il fiume Ebro e la Sierra de Cantabria.
Qui sotto il passo della Sierra che ho attraversato per arrivare a Laguardia

di seguito le prime vigne in altura prima di giungere nella valle dell'Ebro che lo dota di un microclima privilegiato per la coltivazione della vite.
