Il genere Mycena comprende svariate specie di difficile determinazione , vuoi per il loro portamento cosi' minuti vuoi perche' alcune volte bisogna ricorrere all'esame microscopico, rimane comunque uno dei funghetti dal punto di vista fotografico molto interessante. Le loro dimensioi a volte sfioramo 2cm x altezza e massimo 3/mm di diametro del cappello, ma ce ne sono alcune dal portamento anche slanciato e di dimensioni ragguardevoli Essendo funghi saprofiti crescono spesso su legno morto o substrato terricolo, proprio per questo motivo spesso sono invisibili e per scovarli bisogna avere un occhio molto attento ed allenato.
