Stilt fishing is a tradition of southern Sri Lanka, unique in the world. It allows anglers to enter shallow water without being visible to fish; however, it is a particularly tiring fishing method because it requires you to balance for hours on these precarious supports, and you only catch small fish, bringing home a meager booty. Over the years it has been replaced by more modern fishing methods, and the devastating tsunami of 2004 dealt the final blow to this tradition by wiping out everything on the coast. Nowadays, the remaining "stilt fishermen" mostly do it to get tips in exchange for the chance to photograph them, but I still wanted to take a picture of this fascinating tradition. I came out very wet (I went into the sea to take it, and it was raining heavily) but I think it captures the stormy atmosphere well.

Absolutely and you couldn't have done better.
Thank you, Juza, for this cultural gem: pieces of a world that we are losing.

You can see the drops of rain in the sea in the foreground, so can you assure us that this Nikon combo is water resistant :-D ?
Congratulations both for the photo and for your stubbornness to enter the sea to take it!

Cultural and economic changes are homogenizing everything, in any case, even if only for exhibition, they are always beautiful shots to see. 8-)

Incredible photo, 3 fishing
rods, water bottle to drink,
fish bag: I think you can see several and large ones,
yellow raincoat with hood,
all on a pole in the rain in the sea! :-D
For those of us who have a few years on our shoulders, we know that
similar things were "normal" even in our good old days.
