La nebulosa Rosetta (nota anche con le sigle di catalogo NGC 2237 e C 49), situata a circa 5500 anni luce da noi in direzione della costellazione dell'Unicorno. Dalle osservazioni di telescopi a Terra e nello spazio è stato possibile calcolare l'estensione e la massa della tenue nebulosità dell'oggetto celeste, dovuta a polveri e gas, che sarebbero sufficienti a formare ben diecimila stelle come il nostro Sole. È conosciuta fra gli astronomi per la forma simile a una rosa e per il caratteristico vuoto al centro della nube interstellare di polvere, idrogeno, elio e altri gas ionizzati che la compongono. Al centro della nebulosa si trova un brillante ammasso aperto, noto come NGC 2244, i suoi gioielli appunto. Ma sono proprio i suoi gioielli che destano un po' di stupore perché da ultimi studi effettuati le dimensioni della cavità che si osserva al centro della nebulosa è troppo piccola se messa a confronto con l'età delle stelle che sono ospitate nell'ammasso centrale. Queste stelle, infatti, sembrano avere già alcuni milioni di anni di vita e sono già a metà del loro ciclo, per questo ci si aspetterebbe una cavità centrale molto più grande. Immagine ottenuta sommando 30 light frame e 21 dark frame da 4 minuti, per un totale di 2 ore.
