Galassia di Andromeda, Dista da noi circa 2.3 milioni di anni luce. Secondo studi pubblicati negli anni duemila, derivati dalle osservazioni del telescopio spaziale Spitzer, conterrebbe circa 1000 miliardi di stelle. Considerata una vera e propria “gemella” della Via Lattea. prima che una serie di studi cominciasse a evidenziare le tante differenze che separano i due oggetti celesti. La nostra vicina di casa infatti, sarebbe stata “partorita” dallo scontro di due galassie in un passato recente, compreso fra 2 e 3 miliardi di anni fa.
