Beautiful autumn landscape, with the freshness of the blue water of the stream! The focus on the foreground and the medium aperture made the background a bit blurry, a middle ground that would have been better avoided perhaps with a second shot for the background or a more complete focus stacking...

Fascinating choice of photo execution.
And in fact the image faithfully tells this choice

I understand, but focus stacking is the "digital" expedient that replaces the classic hyperfocal... That still works! ;-) However, my suggestion was born from the fact that as I see the image, the background has a blur that is somewhere in between and looking at it I would not have arrived at what you wrote. In these cases I tend to prefer one path or the other: either everything in focus (with hyperfocal or focus stacking) or with a decidedly more blurred background, which makes it clear to the observer that the author's "creative" choice was that.
These are my considerations, just to give you the point of view of an observer (in this case me) of your image! ;-)

I understand your objection and I gladly accept it even if at f/8 with a 14 mm and the focus taken at only 1 mt you are already in hyperfocal which obviously still works and which makes stacking quite useless. ;-)
I wouldn't have blurred more in such a wide-ranging shot. But it's okay that the choice to soften the details at a distance doesn't appeal to everyone. It is also true that we are certainly not talking about a work of art and therefore ideas for sharing ideas are welcome ;-)

You have the hyperfocal at f/11 or better at f/16 and with a 14 mm you have practically everything in focus.
To get a sharper blur with a 14mm you should open wide open to f/2.8 but that's not your case.
In any case, I also always tend to put the focus on the foreground and not the other way around, letting the background be slightly out of focus, with a single shot.
In the case of this photo the background blur seemed to me more than "light" but not "decisive", a middle ground, in short! ;-)

No. If you shoot at 14 mm with a ff (especially at 24 mpx) at f8 taking the focus at 1 mt you are already in hyperfocal ... There are apps that also do the calculations based on the machine and its circle of confusion.
Specifically, at f/8 taking the focus at one meter you have everything in focus from 46 cm to infinity.
But these are minor technicalities

hello dear friend Lespauly I am very pleased to hear from you again and see you again with this spectacular undergrowth in which water is the strongly characterizing element. The colors are very lively. A big hug and see you next time.

Great pdr and beautiful colors. The use of the orton effect is also good :-)
