La giornata stava volgendo al termine e nel pomeriggio gli avvistamenti di giaguari erano stati pressoché nulli. Ad un certo punto il nostro barcaiolo riceve una chiamata alla radio e accelera improvvisamente...appena arriviamo sul posto vediamo quello che sembra essere un grosso legno galleggiare a metà del fiume. Restiamo esterrefatti accorgendoci che si tratta in realtà di un formichiere che sta nuotando da una riva a l'altra del fiume. Arrivato all'altra sponda ha poi cercato ripetutamente di risalire la ripida parete di arenaria. Si dice che l'ultimo evento di questo tipo registrato nella regione di Porto Jofre risalga ai primi anni 2000. Un bel colpo di fortuna!
