it is a egret.
good the composition. subject in shadow and the background does not help.
I see the picture with little detail, his head a little fuzzy and white shoot back.
the next test and other settings.

intanto grazie a entrambi

Meanwhile, thanks to both
x fabyx: you're right lacks sharpness zooming you can see more, I'll try to focus in manual mode next time, keep the iso to a minimum and shooting a little slower maybe
ps.grazie also the name of the bird I was convinced it was a heron, you always learn something new:-P

Ciao
Fabio

I'll try to focus in manual mode next time, keep the iso to a minimum and shooting a little slower maybe
Why?
Focus in manual does not make much sense, what iso you took? Having said that remember that a 300mm on APSC Nikon is equivalent to a focal length of 450mm, so if you are at risk 1/500s shots below and the stabilizer can not do miracles ;-)
With white subjects try to underexpose and always check the histogram ... also activates the warning of the high lights burned so 'you adjust looking at the picture on the screen.
Whenever possible try to close at f / 8 to get sharper ...

The whites are borderline, micromossa, the frame hangs right and left objective of sharpness and detail. Did you by chance cropped? if you by how much? Iso used? To focus using the system af-single (one-shot in canon) aims on the eye, hold the shutter button halfway, redial and finally click at the bottom ... easy is not it? .
When you can exploit F.8 on your new nikkor. hello and good light, laurel

ok focus on a single point I had thought of that before, however I cropped it 25%, iso was 400
thanks for the advice to close to f8 were the first shots I'll be more prepared next time:-D
