The square is located in the center of Warsaw, between the ends of the following streets: Krakowskie Przedmieście, Senatorska, Podwala and Świ?tojańska. The monument to King Sigismund III Vasa located on Castle Square in Warsaw was erected in 1643–1644 by the foundation of Władysław IV Vasa, designed by Augustyn Locci and Konstantyn Tencalli. The monument was restored in 1885–1887 and 1929–1931. Destroyed by the Germans in September 1944, rebuilt in 1948–1949. Sigismund III Vasa, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania in 1587–1632 and King of Sweden in 1592–1599. During his reign, there were several great military successes: victories at Kłuszyn (1610), Khotyn (1621) and Smolensk (1611), as well as the short-term capture of Moscow (1610-1612).
