Il ragno vespa (Argiope fasciata) è una specie abbastanza comune, chiamato così per la colorazione dell'addome giallo e nera che lo rende simile alle vespe. Viene anche chiamato comunemente "ragno tigre" per lo stesso motivo. Si presenta come un grosso ragno (le femmine molto più grandi dei maschi) screziato di giallo, bianco e nero, tipicamente osservabile quando sta immobile al centro di una magnifica tela, come una piccola tigre in agguato.
