La grotta della neve ai piedi del Sas dla Crusc/Santa Croce è una grotta naturale scavata da un piccolo ruscello che scende dalla Piza dales Diesc. Il ruscello si forma a primavera, quando la neve si scioglie e durante i temporali estivin inverni particolarmente freddi e nevosi, gli accumuli di neve nei luoghi ombrosi si conservano e si condensano in masse di ghiaccio spesso protetti in superficie da detriti e accumuli di terra che ne isolano la superficie. L'acqua di fusione scorre giù dalla montagna e passa sotto le masse di ghiaccio e anche se la temperatura dell'acqua è appena sopra il punto di congelamento, il suo corso scava un piccolo antro sotto lo strato superiore del ghiaccio.
