Coenonympha glycerion (Borkhausen, 1788) Famiglia Nymphalidae Sottofamiglia Satyrinae Apertura alare: Da 2,8 a 3,3 cm. Distribuzione in Italia: Limitata ad alcune località situate alle estremità occidentali e orientali delle Alpi e presente sull'Appennino centrale tra Umbria e Abruzzo. Habitat: Prati da 700 a oltre 2000 m. Periodo di volo: Univoltina da metà giugno a tutto luglio. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee tra cui quelle dei generi Briza, Melica, Brachypodium, Cynosurus e Bromus. Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina ha il diritto delle ali anteriori color fulvo chiaro con sfumatura scura solo lungo il bordo esterno da cui è separata da una sottile stria fulva. Nelle popolazioni nord orientali e dell'Italia centrale presenta ocelli anche sul diritto delle ali posteriori. Variazioni: Le popolazioni delle Alpi occidentali in genere sono senza ocelli, a volte però questi sono piccoli o appena accennati sul rovescio delle ali posteriori, in particolare nelle femmine (razza bertolis). Specie simili: Coenonympha gardetta da cui si distingue per la mancanza della banda bianca continua, che contiene gli ocelli, lungo il bordo del rovescio delle ali posteriori, sostituita da uno o due macchie chiare irregolari poste più internamente e, per le popolazioni delle Alpi occidentali, per la mancanza di ocelli sempre presenti invece in C. gardetta. C. rhodopensis da cui C. glycerion si distingue per la colorazione più scura del diritto delle ali e per la presenza della sottile stria fulva marginale, in particolare lungo il bordo del rovescio delle ali posteriori.
