Anche se la sua luce è attenuata dalla polvere interposta, la galassia nana irregolare mostra ancora vigorose regioni di formazione stellare che brillano di un bagliore rossastro rivelatore in questo colorato panorama del cielo. Infatti, anch'essa membro del Gruppo Locale di galassie, IC 10 è la galassia starburst più vicina conosciuta.
