è una nebulosa diffusa situata nella Costellazione del Cigno, 2,5 gradi a sud-ovest della stella ? Cygni, dista da noi circa 5000 anni luce. Il nome "Crescent" deriva dalla sua "gobba" che si espande nella direzione di ponente, come il nostro satellite quando è in fase crescente. Questa bolla cosmica, si estende nello spazio per circa 25 anni luce, la stella al suo centro, che probabilmente ha dato vita alla nebulosa è di tipo�Wolf-Rayet�(stelle massicce con dimensioni di 20 masse solari, che perdono massa molto velocemente producendo violenti venti stellari con velocità di 2000 km/sec.) Questa stella in breve tempo, circa 100.000 anni brucerà tutto il suo combustibile esplodendo alla fine in una maestosa�supernova.
