Plebejus argyrognomon (Bergsträsser, 1779) Famiglia Lycaenidae Sottofamiglia Polyommatinae Apertura alare: Da 2,5 a 3,2 cm. Distribuzione in Italia: Presente dal nord d'Italia alla Calabria, ma non segnalata in vaste zone di Trentino, Veneto, Toscana, Umbria, Molise, Basilicata, Puglia e nelle isole. Habitat: Praterie fiorite e ambienti secchi, dalla pianura a 1200 m., ma localmente raggiunge i 2000 m. Periodo di volo: Polivoltina da fine maggio a luglio e da agosto a metà settembre. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie piante dei generi Coronilla, Medicago, Anthyllis, Trifolium, Astragalus, Cytisus, ecc. Dimorfismo sessuale: Sul diritto la femmina è marrone con archetti marginali arancioni, ma non sono rari i casi di esemplari con azzurramento nella zona basale. Variazioni: Le varie razze locali si differenziano per la grandezza media degli esemplari inoltre, sul diritto delle ali delle femmine, varia il numero di archetti arancioni premarginali che in alcuni casi sono appena accennati sulle ali posteriori, mentre in altri sono presenti anche sulle ali anteriori. Specie simili: Da Plebejus idas e dalle sue sottospecie, il maschio si distingue per le dimensioni delle macchie arancioni premarginali sul rovescio delle ali che in Plebejus argyrognomon raggiungono l'apice dell'ala anteriore, mentre in Plebejus idas sono più piccole e si fermano spesso a metà ala. Sempre sul rovescio delle ali la spolveratura azzurra basale in Plebejus idas tende ad essere più verdastra. Nei maschi di Plebejus argyrognomon il bordo nero sul diritto delle ali è molto ridotto, i punti neri sulle ali posteriori sono, in genere, appoggiati a questo e in alcuni casi staccati. Nelle femmine la frangia delle ali in Plebejus argyrognomon è più o meno biancastra, mentre in Plebejus idas e in Plebejus argus è di colore grigio brunastro. Da Plebejus argus si distingue per le maggiori dimensioni e per la minore lunghezza delle frange, inoltre, sul diritto dei maschi, per la quasi totale mancanza di bordo nero.
