La sede del museo fa parte di un antico complesso conventuale che risale al XII secolo, che comprende anche la chiesa del 1260 (oggi sconscrata) Museo di Sant'Agostino espone soprattutto sculture provenienti da edifici di Genova databili fra la tarda antichità e la fine del Settecento. Il percorso museale offre anche una sezione dedicata alla pittura su tavola, e altre pregevoli opere in legno dipinto.
