Verso la metà di febbraio del 2022 il cratere di Sud-Est è stato interessato da un evento violento: si è letteralmente squarciato un fianco. L'enorme quantità di materiale ha formato una sorta di nube piroclastica che è andata in direzione Sud investendo parte dei Monti Barbagallo. La potenza dell'evento la si poteva intuire osservando la quantità di materiale riversata e l'istantaneo e totale incenerimento delle staccionate che delimitavano il percorso dei turisti e che si trovavano su uno dei coni vulcanici Barbagallo. Ma l'immagine che può dare un'idea delle reali proporzioni dell'evento (che spesso è difficile valutare se non ci sono degli elementi nella scena che consentano di fare una 'misurazione') è proprio questa che pubblico oggi. I più attenti di voi avranno notato nella parte bassa della foto un omino in pantaloncini con una giacca a vento rossa.
