Si tratta di una delle tecniche più lunghe e complesse utilizzabili nelle Fonderie Artistiche, in cui tutte le fasi sono ancora oggi manuali e necessitano di artigiani esperti per eseguirle e per evitare errori che possano compromettere la fusione stessa. In sintesi, la tecnica della cera persa porta alla creazione di un modello in cera dell'opera che l'artista ha prodotto, chiuso tra due forme di materiale refrattario: una interna, detta anima, e una esterna chiamata anche mantello. Attraverso un processo di cottura delle forme, si ottiene lo scioglimento e la volatilizzazione della cera e la conseguente formazione di un'intercapedine nella quale viene colato il bronzo fuso. Una volta liberato il bronzo dal mantello e dall'anima, comincia un lavoro di nettatura, cesellatura e patinatura, anch'esso esclusivamente manuale, che porterà al risultato finale richiesto dall'artista committente.
