Sabato 13 aprile 2024, 9:25. In primo piano vediamo la Guglia Carelli, realizzata sull'angolo della Sacrestia Nord (o Aquilonare) a cavallo tra la fine del '300 e l'inizio del '400. È la più antica del Duomo e, per circa quattrocento, anni è stata una delle poche ad ornare la cattedrale, dal momento che la stragrande maggioranza delle 135 guglie venne realizzata nel corso del XIX secolo. Essa è intitolata a Marco Carelli, ricchissimo mercante che nominò la Veneranda Fabbrica sua erede universale; il che diede un grande contributo alla realizzazione dell'abside e dalla Sacrestia Aquilonare, che costituiscono la parte più antica del Duomo in quanto edificate a partire dal 1387 sotto il patrocinio di Gian Galeazzo Visconti, signore di Milano, che il medesimo anno fondò la Veneranda Fabbrica e le assegnò le cave di marmo di Candoglia, la principale materia con cui è costruita la cattedrale. Sopra la Guglia Carelli vediamo una statua raffigurante San Giorgio (forse con le fattezze di Gian Galeazzo Visconti) che regge uno stendardo. Si tratta una copia, realizzata in marmo di Candoglia negli anni '50 del '900, in sostituzione dell'originale, opera di Giorgio Solari e collocata sulla guglia nel 1403. Essa venne gravemente danneggiata da un bombardamento nel 1943; quindi restaurata dagli scultori della Veneranda Fabbrica (che hanno realizzato anche la copia) e attualmente si trova nel Museo del Duomo. A desta e fuori fuoco è la Guglia Maggiore, costruita tra il 1765 e il 1769 su progetto dell'architetto Francesco Croce; e penso che sia superfluo specificare cosa rappresenta la statua dorata in cima ad essa. Dirò solo che è alta quattro metri e che fu realizzata su disegno dello scultore Giuseppe Perego, tra il 1769 e il 1773, in lastre di rame placcate d'oro su un'armatura metallica. Nell'angolo in basso a destra si intravvedono le impalcature per il restauro del Tiburio.
