Situata a ridosso della savana, in Costa D'Avorio, nella periferia della capitale Yamoussoukro, questa incredibile (quasi) replica della basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano, si presenta come un meteorite fuori contesto. Voluta dall'allora presidente della repubblica Houphouët-Boigny, per dare lustro alla sua città natale, elevata al rango di capitale nel 1983, costruita in marmo tra il 1985 e il 1989, è stata consacrata dall'allora Papa e oggi Santo Giovanni Paolo II il 10 settembre 1990, che venne di persona allo scopo.
