Melitaea trivia ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) Famiglia Nymphalidae Sottofamiglia Nymphalinae Apertura alare: Da 2,6 a 4,1 cm. Distribuzione in Italia: Estremamente localizzata nell'Italia settentrionale con popolazioni molto isolate. Più comune nelle regioni peninsulari dalle Marche alla Calabria. Habitat: Margini di boschi, radure, prati secchi e sassosi dalla pianura a 1700 m. Periodo di volo: Polivoltina da maggio a giugno e da metà luglio a metà settembre, con notevoli variazione in funzione della quota. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie essenze del genere Verbascum. Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina un po' più grande del maschio e con disegni neri più sviluppati. Variazioni: L'estensione di disegni neri è variabilissima. Vi è una notevole differenza di dimensioni tra la prima generazione, più grande, e la seconda. Specie simili: Melitaea didyma che sul diritto si differenzia per la serie degli archetti neri premarginali staccati tra loro e che non toccano la fascia nera marginale. Dalle altre specie del genere Melitaea si distingue per la frammentazione del disegno nero del rovescio delle ali posteriori costituito da piccoli tratti staccati uno dall'altro ad eccezione della serie di archetti premarginali.
