La danza di corteggiamento , l' accoppiamento e la nidificazione nella laguna sono i momenti più importanti e spettacolari della vita dei fenicotteri . I trampolieri rosa sono fatti all'antica. Prima dell'accoppiamento si lanciano in voli e parate di corteggiamento. La sfilata nuziale è uno spettacolo. Maschi e femmine – senza distinzione di seso – passeggiano avanti e indietro, impettiti, battono le zampe, aprono le ali rosa e nere, muovono ritmicamente testa da una parte all'altra. Sembra una danza rituale, un ballo. Sarà spirito di campanile, ma gli scienziati spagnoli non hanno dubbi: i movimenti frenetici dei ballerini di flamenco sono figli, anche nel nome, di quell'elegante trampoliere (flamingo in inglese e in tedesco, flamant in francese, mentre il nostro bellissimo "gent'arrubia" arriva dall'Oristanese, nel Cagliaritano un tempo lo chiamavano mangoni)
