L'abito femminile più noto di Tempio è quello nero. Risale alla seconda metà dell'Ottocento e veniva portato per le cerimonie ufficiali dalle donne appartenenti alle classi sociali più elevate. Era realizzato con tessuti molto pregiati, come seta o velluto di seta, ed è caratterizzato dalla presenza di una seconda gonna chiamata faldetta incupaltata che veniva rovesciata fino a coprire il capo. Il viso era contornato dal pizzo bianco che copre anche la gola e il petto, trattenuto da diverse spille di filigrana. Con il trascorrere del tempo questo abito divenne caratteristico di tutte le donne tempiesi. Rispetto alle altre zone della Sardegna, le donne tempiesi non amavano ornarsi di gioielli e si limitavano a portare la spilla e gli orecchini chiamati pindini o ricchiali.
