Very interesting (as well as being a beautiful picture) as many books, including authoritative, giving as the only bird of prey "fish" in our Palearctic the osprey (Pandion haliaetus). The fact that there is successful I do not think that implies that it has already rejected earlier. I wonder if it is an isolated incident or if the kites feed on fish also really ...

Leonardo hello, thanks for the ride and the depth commentary :-)

in fact I've seen kites fish in large bodies of water (eg in the dam of San Giuliano, a big invaded pretty close to where I live), but never in attitudes to be true predatory fish, fishing nell'alveo of a river even. honestly do not know whether it is an isolated case ... however even though he went to empty I could appreciate a great "feel" of the kite to the water and I think then it can not be "one-off" but a precise behavior is part of the its ethology :-)

In the diet is also written that also eats fish. Except in some fish do not steal them or wait for the dry river, it means that he is a potential fisherman:-D:-D

Returning to shoot, when caught incredible!
The flicker of water between the legs and the surface of the river gives great dynamism to the scene and helps to realize what has just happened.
Congratulations socio ;-)

Angelino and Mauro thanks :-)

@ Angelino: in fact this is the black kite (Milvus migrans) but I suppose the speech can be extended to him ;-)

@ Bern: You're right, unfortunately I found out later and I have not had time to "put right":-D but it was a thrill crazy :-)
