Storia e varie del Ponte di Biscaglia, attualmente in pieno funzionamento ogni anno è attraversato da quasi sei milioni di viaggiatori, è stato inaugurato nel 1893 ed è opera dell'architetto Alberto de Palacio, uno dei discepoli di Gustave Eiffel. Il servizio venne sospeso per quattro anni durante la guerra civile spagnola, quando la parte superiore del ponte venne fatta saltare esattamente nel 1937 dai repubblicani nel tentativo di rallentare l'avanzata dei nazionalisti. Il ponte fu riaperto nel 1942. Dalla sua casa di Portugalete, Alberto Palacio guardava la sua principale opera venir distrutta poco prima della sua morte.
