Sul bordo esterno del braccio di Orione(uno dei bracci a spirale della nostra Via Lattea)si trova un complesso nebuloso molecolare denominato Monoceros OB 1. Un'associazione OB è un'associazione stellare di recente formazione, contenente decine di stelle massicce di classe spettrale O e B. All'interno di questo complesso molecolare,situato in direzione della costellazione dell'Unicorno ,spiccano (visibili nella mia astrofotografia) la famosa nebulosa cono con l'ammasso stellare denominato "albero di Natale" e la nebulosa pelliccia di volpe. Il bagliore blu centrale è dato dalle polveri che riflettono la luce della stella S Mon, l'astro brillante che spicca al centro. Le nebulose che state osservando si trovano ad una distanza di circa 2480 anni luce dal sistema solare.
