La scalinata che porta in piazza Duomo a Pienza con l'abside a destra e Palazzo Piccolomini a sinistra. Il Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta fu arretrato il più possibile verso sud per poter ampliare la piazza, tanto che la zona absidale e parte del transetto poggiano sulle pendici scoscese del rilievo collinare sul quale sorge Pienza.
