I Carnevali della cosiddetta “Coumba Freida” (aria gelida) si svolgono nei villaggi che da Aosta salgono verso il Colle del Gran San Bernardo: tra essi, quello di Saint-Rhemy-en-Bosses è uno dei più pittoreschi. La tradizione lega la nascita del Carnevale al passaggio di 60.000 soldati francesi comandati da Napoleone, diretti a Marengo durante la campagna d'Italia nel maggio 1800. Il corteo che sfila per le vie del villaggio è aperto proprio da Napoleone a cavallo, seguito da una piccola banda musicale e da decine di figuranti , vestiti con abiti sgargianti ed elaboratissimi che ogni famiglia arricchisce di fiocchi, perline e passamaneria di ogni genere.
